Guide's call: we go. Clear skies and moderate activity. Every tour runs as planned, and the hunt heads for the open lake shore first.

Sample data. These numbers are made up to show how the panel works. On a live site it can read an aurora and cloud forecast feed every hour, and the guide on duty adds the call by 17:00.

How to read the sky panel

Most guests arrive knowing one word: Kp. It helps, but it is not the whole story, so the panel shows the three things our guides check before every departure.

  • Kp index (0 to 9). A measure of how disturbed Earth's magnetic field is. Rovaniemi sits right on the Arctic Circle, under the usual aurora oval, so even a Kp of 2 or 3 can light up the northern sky.
  • Cloud cover. This matters more than Kp. Strong auroras behind thick cloud are invisible, while a quiet aurora under a clear sky can still be beautiful. When the town is cloudy, we drive to the clearest gap.
  • Darkness. From late August the nights are dark enough again. Around midwinter there are only a few hours of daylight, which gives us long evenings to wait for a show.

No promises, just good odds

Auroras are nature, not a timetable. What we can promise is a guide who checks the forecast all afternoon, a vehicle ready to move, and a warm fire while we wait.

If we cancel because of weather or safety, you can move to another night or get your money back. That is the sample policy on this demo, and a real operator would write their own terms here.

Three ways to spend a Lapland night

Every tour starts with a pickup in Rovaniemi and ends back at your door. Prices are sample "from" figures per adult.

How a tour night works

  1. 17:00 weather call

The guide on duty checks the forecasts and messages every guest: go, chase or move to another night.

  2. Pickup in town

We collect you from your hotel or the meeting point in Rovaniemi. Thermal overalls and boots are already in the van.

  3. Out of the light

We drive to the spot with the clearest sky, light a fire and watch. Guides take a group photo if the lights appear.

  4. Back to your door

Home after midnight with warm hands, plenty of photos and a better idea of what the sky was doing.
